Formatting XML documents

The XSL standard includes not only the transformation language but also a formatting language for documents. XSL-FO (Extensible Stylesheet Language Formatting Objects) covers the whole range of the layout – from online documents to printed manuals with complex page layouts. XSL-FO fills a gap here, particularly for the high-quality print products.

Course Aim

You will learn about the concepts of formatting and page layout with XSL-FO. The entire publishing process of XML documents, in particular the paper output, will be practiced using examples.

Target Group

Persons involved in technical writing, online publishing and print-on-demand.

Prerequisites

We assume that you have the knowledge we give you in our courses „XML 1 – orientation course“, „XML 2 – basics“ and „XSLT“. You should also have basic knowledge of typesetting and layouting.
