Formatting XML documents

The XSL standard consists of a formatting language for documents as well as a transformation language. XSL-FO (Extensible Stylesheet Language Formatting Objects) covers the complete range of layouts, from online documentation to printed manuals with complex page designs. XSL-FO is particularly useful for producing high-quality printed media.

Course Objectives

You will learn about the concepts behind using XSL-FO for formatting and page layout. We will use examples to practice the complete process of publishing XML documents, especially for print.

Persons who work in the fields of technical writing, online publishing, and print on demand (POD).

Prerequisites

We assume you have the knowledge given in our courses „XML 1 – Orientation Course“, „XML 2 – Basics“ and „XSLT“. Basic knowledge of text formatting and layout is recommended.
